Show Us CNY16 has begun and continues through the July 4th holiday weekend, offering local amateur and professional photographers alike the opportunity to shoot and share their unique perspectives of life in Central New York for all to enjoy.
Participation is easy: Simply grab your smartphone or digital camera, snap a photo, and then post it (to Twitter, Instagram or Facebook) using the hashtag #ShowUsCNY16 or send it as an email attachment to email@example.com. Your image will be added to others’ photos and will be displayed in an ever-growing online gallery on ShowUsCNY.org—forming a colossal, crowd-sourced community collage.
The online gallery is one nifty aspect of Show Us CNY16. Another: From all of the images submitted, a jury will select a representative few that will be printed by Light Work, mounted by the SU Bookstore, and placed in a traveling exhibition this fall/winter that will tour Cayuga, Cortland, Onondaga, Oswego and Madison counties. Dates for the Show Us CNY16 Exhibition are being finalized and will be announced in the near future.
Last year, a record number of 1,100 photos were submitted. From these, 40 were chosen for the traveling exhibition. The pieces covered seven distinct categories: Action, Animals, Artistic, Black & White/Unicolor, People, Scenic/Nature and Structure.
Show Us CNY16 is a project of Social Media Breakfast Syracuse, a grassroots organization of local social media practitioners and enthusiasts, along with partners The Gifford Foundation, Redhouse, Giansanti Design, Light Work, SU Bookstore, AIGA Upstate New York, Auburn Public Theater, Believe in Syracuse, Canal Commons, Cayuga County Office of Tourism, Cazenovia College, Center for the Arts of Homer, CNY Arts, Downtown Committee of Syracuse, 40 Below, Hashtagio, Lakeside Artisans, Oswego County Tourism Office, SyracuseFirst, Syracuse Connective Corridor, Syracuse Press Club, Syracuse Stage, SU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, Visit Syracuse and WAER.
